Words like pop-up cameras, in-glass fingerprint sensors were like a dream until the last few years. But now they are in every second phone you see around yourself.
Now, most of you might be thinking that these mind-blowing technologies have been built by top smartphone manufacturers like Apple, Samsung, Oneplus. NO, you are wrong these technologies are developed by a lesser-known company named Vivo.
| Vivo Apex (a concept phone launched in 2018) |
In 2018, Vivo launched the first smartphone (concept) having an in-glass fingerprint sensor and a pop-up selfie camera mechanism to get rid of that huge bezel and to move forward into the future of bezel-less displays. A couple of weeks later they launched a truly commercial phone having most of the feature of that concept phone named Vivo Nex S.

But soon after that, every smartphone manufacturer started copying the trend and Vivo just got disappeared in the clouds. Oneplus started its in-glass fingerprint sensor embedded line up with Oneplus 6t, soon becoming the fastest under the glass fingerprint sensor in the market. Samsung too followed their footsteps and introduced it in Samsung Galaxy S10 and S10+.

And after that, it flooded the whole market where every smartphone manufacturer started copying the trend, except Apple. So, despite Vivo being the inventor of the technology, Samsung and Oneplus are having the best in-glass fingerprint sensors and they made sure it is marketed like that the technology never existed before them.
Envision and planning is important, but the execution is more important and that too in the right manner.
The history is supposed to repeat itself with the race of the First in-glass selfie camera.
ZTE, a Chinese manufacturer recently announced to produce the first smartphone with an under-screen selfie camera. And they are claiming to launch its first device called ZTE Axon 20 5G way ahead of its competitors. ZTE claims that this will be the “world’s first mass-produced 5G smartphone with an under-display camera”, significantly out taking the notches and punch holes from the displays.

However, the under-screen camera is yet sceptical, as to make it, both the display and the camera has to go through some compromises to put together the concept of in-display selfie camera. And if the technology is a hit, then it will be no longer than the likes of Samsung and Apple will grab the pie and change the flagship smartphone design.
But the question is will ZTE be the next Vivo in under-glass camera or will it conquer the smartphone giants in this race?

Good one 👍👍👍
